The “True Tune” story…

The “True Tune” story…

I had always dreamed of being a rock star. OK, not exactly a rock star in the way that many of you (younger) readers might think of one, but one in the Amy Grant mold. Cause she was the coolest when I was growing up and I was quite sure I was going to be just like her one day.

Long story short, in my early twenties I moved to Nashville, met with all the right people, and planned a big showcase. The night of the show there was a line out the door and down the street. All the who’s who were there. It was the absolute perfect night, the perfect setting, the perfect audience to witness what was sure to become the biggest, um, FLOP they had seen in a while.

I have lots of very good reasons for why things went wrong. But none of them can make up for the fact that in the eyes of everyone in the room, I was no closer to being the next Amy Grant than the millions of other wannabees swarming Nashville in those days.

The next day, no one would return my calls. It was over. My dream, which seemed so possible a mere 24 hours earlier, had vanished. And with it went my pride. My confidence. My flawed yet very real understanding of who I was.

In fact, I was so humiliated by the experience that I actually shut my mouth and stopped singing for nearly a decade.

It’s a long story and maybe one day I’ll write a book about all the things I learned during those years and since, but one of the coolest ways God has been redeeming my own story as I’ve walked in recovery from eating issues these past ten years is that he brought the music back. If fact, my first ever official “cut” was on a recording called “Tell Me What You See,” a cd from Music for the Soul for those struggling with eating issues. (Listen to my song, “To Be Free”).

So when we launched the True Campaign, I just knew there had to be a song with it. And I wanted to be a part of it.
I called on my good friend Missi Hale – a FABULOUS songwriter and performer who I’ve had the privilege of knowing for the past several years. We put our heads together and came up with a great tune, and Missi gave a powerhouse performance.

This is the tune you’ve heard behind the “I Have Eating Issues” video, and it’s never been available for download until now.

The best part is, all the money that comes in through the sale of this tune goes to benefit our work here at True. So if you’ve got 99 cents, why not download the True tune today, and have a great, encouraging song to keep you moving toward the freedom God has for you.

And maybe next time I’ll actually get to be the one singing… smile

Michael,

Thank you for your kind words. And you’re right, God continually working out my approval addiction issues, and everything is perfect in his timing.

re: purchasing the True Tune, we don’t have this available yet but might if we get enough requests for hard-copy cd’s.

I do have a recording on another cd, though. It’s not the same song but is the first one I’ve had published and am actually singing on. You can find it on “Tell Me What You See” - a cd produced by the ministry Music for the Soul (info and clips at http://www.musicforthesoul.org).

Incidentally, I just had breakfast this morning with the founder of Music for the Soul, Steve Siler, who has become a good friend and fellow laborer in the field of bringing healing to those who struggle with various issues, including eating disorders, pornography, cancer and more. I think you will really be blessed by his work, and you can definitely purchase their recordings in hard-copy form.

Blessings,

Constance
