A Month Without Makeup - Day 7 Recap

Saturday, February 07, 2009 - Comments 4

I know I said I would stop blogging every day, but I don’t want to miss some of the ups and downs of this thing…

Today was a harder day for me. It started with a hair appointment at 10:00. Some of you guys may have heard me talk about having a bit of obsession with hair… so hair appointments are something I both anticipate and dread. When I first made the appointment several weeks ago, I didn’t know, of course, that I would be engaged in a no-makeup challenge when it occurred. And I had kind of planned to do something a little funky with the color, since it had been a while since I actually did that.

The thing about it is… funky hair is easier to pull off without makeup. So as the appointment drew closer, I reconsidered my plan, and decided to stay with a lot of my natural color and just a little bit of extra stuff.

Which is what my stylist mostly did.

But she also put several white blonde highlights underneath my hair in the front, and when I pull my hair back now I look totally washed out. I also let her cut it pretty short – she was wearing a very cute style and I told her to give me the same. Now I’m not so sure. I feel pretty ugly, actually.

Still, I put my best face forward, got dressed this afternoon and headed to church with the kids. My husband and I always sit on the front row of this 3,000 member church (about 600 attend the Sat night service like we do), so I was all ready to stride in there sans makeup.

How unfortunate that when we finally made it there, two of the three kids were sick and we decided it wouldn’t be fair to the other kids to throw them in the nursery/classes that way.

How unfortunate…

Places I went today:
1. Hair salon (Dion’s South in downtown Franklin, TN)
2. Adventure Science Center with Christian and his friend Mark
3. Church… almost

Positive comments: Several on my Facebook page, cheering me on in spite of my haircut.

Favorite thing today – nothing really. I have a headache and am also aching for a little made-up beauty again. That’s just the honest truth.

PS. As promised, here’s my pic from yesterday…

Thank you for your continued honesty Constance. You don’t hesitate from saying the “wrong” thing by admitting your feel “ugly” but in doing so draw others into a safe place and a willing to take risks as well.

Hey there, just randomly happened by this site and read your post. Just want to say I LOVE your haircut. If I were ever to chop off my long hair I’d do something like that. And also you are are perfectly beautiful sans makeup. I have nasty darkness under my eyes and only on a really rare day can I go w/o coverup, mascara, and eyeliner. It’s awesome what your doing, keep going and all the best. Be Blessed.
