Your True Value

Friday, August 15, 2008 - Comments 0

We’ve asked Allie Marie Smith of Wonderfully Made and author of the upcoming book Healthy Eating Abundant Living (releasing this December) to write a guest blog for us. Thanks for joining us Allie!

Okay, so I’m sitting in my over-heated apartment working away. I just acted upon what my senses sensed as a “good thing” and dove into a freshly-baked pan of banana bread I made this morning. Not to mislead you - I’m no Betty Crocker. I just read the directions and thankfully pulled it out before it caught on fire.

A Bazillion Things You Can Do

Saturday, July 26, 2008 - Comments 0

Dave and JJ Heller sent me an email this morning. I wasn’t expecting anything from them so it was a pleasant surprise. If you’ve not heard of JJ Heller you are missing out on some great music (you can check out their website at http://www.jjheller.com or download their music from iTunes). I first met Dave and JJ when they played for a chapel service here at Remuda Ranch. Immediately I fell in love with them and their music—it fits my style of creative folk/rock.

Here’s what Dave wrote:

Stop the Insanity

At What Point do we stop the Insanity?

So… I have to say that when I saw this ad for the new television program She’s Got the Look, something in me wanted to scream. Or at least groan a little bit.

I mean, at what point do we stop competing with others on the basis of appearance? Do we really want to live our lives trying to alter our bodies, wear the perfect clothes, buy the best makeup and hair stuff, etc. so that we can finally accomplish what our culture defines as “not average”?

OK – so I do most of those things. (No body altering, though, just for the record…) And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good and be stylish, as a thirty-six year old woman, I feel a deep and ever-increasing urge to reject the idea that I’m not allowed to age.

Why can’t we be human? What’s wrong with being normal? Why can’t we look our age and not have to apologize for it? At what point do we stop this insanity?
